Accepting Applications: Private Six-Month Writing Program

Does any of this sound familiar?

• You have a lot of writing but don’t know how to put it together.
• You are ready to get your writing out into the world, but you don’t know what’s the best way or how.
• You’re not sure if what you have makes any sense or if it’s worth spending time on.
• You’ve sent your work to agents and have only received rejections.

Or Maybe

• You have a book in you and you know you want to write, but you don’t know where to begin or how to get going.
• You want a writing schedule you can stick to and someone helping you along the way.
• You need a guide to help you through the process of writing, editing, creating query letters or proposals that sell.

If any of the above sounds familiar to you, well, then, this program is for you.

In this private 6-month program, I’ll help you carve away the fat to find the book within your pages; help you begin and maintain a writing schedule; edit the work that comes in, and coach you through the process. By the end of the six months you’ll have a completed first draft.

Along the way, you’ll receive a high degree of accountability, coaching and support so you can really step into the author you want to be.

Why did I create this program for you?

I’ve been where you are. Sitting in front of my computer or a pile full of papers wondering if this was actually something worth pursuing. Or better yet, was I actually capable of doing this? Could I really write a book and a book that others wanted to read?

Years of practicing, trying, failing, practicing, trying, failing taught me how to succeed. And it was in all the failure that I learned why my work wasn’t selling. It was in all the rejection that I learned how to make my work stronger. It was wading through a lot of insecurity to finally learn to follow my strengths.

Throughout the years I wished that I’d had someone who could help guide me and teach me how to become the author and writer I wanted to be. For someone to tell me what I was doing right, but also where I could improve. This is why I created the program for you – so that you aren’t left to figure this all out on your own like I had to.

It’s about action, accountability and actualization. You’ll walk away with a mindset shift that will affect not only your writing but also your life.

What People Are Saying

"Initially, I had a "lump" of writing...about 30 or so pages that didn't really make sense. I showed this "lump" to Cynthia and she told me that there was something there, that I had a novel in me. I am not sure how she recognized it, but she did, and currently I have been signed with a highly-reputable agent." - Joanne Strasser

"I learned so much. I want to hole up and savor all that I learned, register it all so it becomes a part of my writing repertoire. Write a few pieces. Read a few pieces and mark out the formulas ... You energized all of us." - Workshop Participant

“Cynthia is the perfect kind of development editor - one who mixes a detailed-oriented approach to work, combined with a creative ability to suggest alternative methods of communicating challenging concepts to readers. There is no doubt in my mind that our book "Hadoop in Practice" would have resulted in an altogether different and less useful book had it not been for Cynthia's diligent work. I would work with Cynthia again in a heartbeat” Alex Holmes (Computer Software Professional)

What To Expect From The Program:

Week 1: Create Your Story Outline
Depending on where you’re starting out, this week is designed to get you thinking about your work and the narrative. To focus on the big picture what the book is about, and to answer the dreaded question of what’s the point! Before you begin to write or to go in and rework you need to know what the point is of what you’re writing. This goes for fiction or non-fiction.

Week 2: Deadline Dates Confirmed
With the table of contents loosely developed we’ll create a realistic schedule for your work. This will outline deadline dates for first drafts and take into consideration time for revision. The schedule will include a week or two off and time to catch up if falling behind.

Week 3-10: Writing / Revising
Week 3-10 gets you into the writing schedule. You’ll be writing at least one chapter every two weeks. The third week will be for revision.

Week 11: Catch Up / Rest Week
It’s really important not to burn yourself out, which is why scheduling some downtown is good. It clears the brain and recharges your creative energy.

Week 12-19: Writing and Revising

Week 20: Catch Up / Rest Week

Week 21: Assessing Future of Work
This week is taking stock of where you are in the process. How far you’ve come and what’s left for you to do to finish up the work. At this point, depending on the length of your book you’ll either be completed with a first draft or a handful of weeks away from done.

Week 22: Next Steps
Here we’ll get into the next steps for you writing. What steps you’ll need to take and how.

How The Process Works

When a draft is done, you’ll send it to me, I’ll look over the content within 48 hours, and send you back my suggested feedback.

All comments are in Microsoft Word, using the commenting feature. Or commenting feature in a PDF document.

There will NEVER be any direct edits in your work. This means I will never go in and make changes for you. You are responsible for making all changes and reworking the material.

Once the edits are turned back to you, you’ll go into the content and revise. You’ll send me the revision. I’ll take another look.

Once the chapter looks pretty solid, you’ll move into the next chapter. Normally, it’s about two iterations per chapter.

This invitation is for YOU if you are ready right now to start writing or finishing the work you’ve begun and if the following describes you:

• You’ve been dreaming of writing a book for a long time. You’ve always thought you had a book in you, but you don’t know where to start or how to get going. You feel lost and don’t know how to find your way. You’re ready to learn how to get going and get on the right path to publication.

• You’ve started many books, but never able to finish them. There’s never enough time or the insecurity and self-doubt creep in taking you away from moving forward. You want to find a ritual around writing and learn how to incorporate it into your day-to-day and learn techniques to help you through the fear around your work.

• You want to “hit the ground running” take actionable steps to get the book done. You know that by staying as you are you’re going to be getting the exact same and it’s time - you’re ready to become the author you want to be.

• You know you need support and know you need accountability so you can get it done!

Not everyone is ready to commit to their writing. Many people are content living their lives as they’ve always been; it’s easier to stay where they are, blame others, use phrases like, it is what it is. They say to themselves, I just don’t have the time and it’s such a long process. And for those people staying on that path is right for them.

But for the writer with a deep inner calling…a passionate yearning to write something worth remembering and who is ready to share their voice with the world, well, then the above is not enough.

This program is right for you if you truly desire to create work worth remembering. You’re ready to leave waiting, delaying and denying your voice from existing in the world and play full out to create the book you’ve always wanted.

You need to know that I am VERY selective about who I choose to work with privately. I’ve found that it’s not of service to take on a client who simply isn’t ready to receive this kind of support, or is not willing to take the action required to uplevel their writing routine.

As a writer on the verge of taking this next step

➢ You are decisive and are willing to make decisions even when it’s uncomfortable

➢ You view yourself as a key player in your situation and are committed to taking responsibility for your actions

➢ You are committed to your own growth

➢ You are ready to invest in yourself

➢ You are coachable, willing to receive feedback (especially on what may not be working) and you show up to get the results you want

➢ You are willing to do things differently

➢ You respect my boundaries

➢ You make payments on time

➢ You accept 100% responsibility for your results – no exceptions or excuses

➢ You are excited about working together towards achieving your goals

It’s a MUST that this program is a fit for both of us. Once I receive your completed application, we’ll have a short interview to make sure that you and I are a perfect fit for each other and that this program is the right decision for you. You will only be offered a spot in the program if it’s a perfect match.

So what’s the investment?
As you undoubtedly know, this level of support and mentorship requires a deep investment of time, energy, attention and money. It’s these kinds of investments that pull you forward the most – the benefits are priceless! Because this program has to be the perfect fit for you, I’ll share the investment in our interview.

READY TO COMMIT…THE NEXT STEP IS SIMPLE!

If you see yourself reflected in these words … if you’re feeling that gentle tug telling you you’re ready for this…then this is your moment to step forward and become the writer you already are.

It matters that you take action now. And the next step couldn’t be simpler. To be considered for the program, simply complete the application and hit submit.
